The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2016. The committee held work sessions on February 11, 2016 and February 12, 2016. The committee met in executive session on February 16, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 9, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2016 and was referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 29, 2016. An enrolled bill amendment (2016-1389e) was adopted on a voice vote on April 6, 2016. These correct technical errors found after passage. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 7, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on April 20, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2016-1389e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on April 28, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 5, 2016, making it Chapter 65 of the session laws.
