  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Transportation
  • Senate committee: Transportation
  • Subject: Motor Vehicles
  • Chapter law: 223

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2016. The committee met in executive session on February 16, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 16–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 9, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2016 and was referred to the Senate Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 26, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2016-1783s). The committee's amendment (1783s) was rejected on a roll call 7–17 on May 12, 2016. A floor amendment (2016-1933s), offered by Sen. Stiles, was adopted on a voice vote on May 12, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On May 12, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 19, 2016 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 1933s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Steven Smith. The bill was enrolled on June 1, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 9, 2016, making it Chapter 223 of the session laws.
