The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 26, 2016. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 9, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2016 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 6, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 21, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 11, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 19, 2016, making it Chapter 82 of the session laws.
