  • House committee: Transportation
  • Senate committee: Transportation
  • Subject: Motor Vehicles
  • Chapter law: 235

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2016. The committee met in executive session on March 1, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 16–2 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2016-0753h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2016-0753h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 9, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On March 9, 2016 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2016 and was referred to the Senate Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 5, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On May 5, 2016 the Senate rejected a motion to kill it on a voice vote. A floor amendment (2016-1869s), offered by Sen. Feltes, was adopted on a voice vote on May 5, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On May 5, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 19, 2016 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 1869s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Steven Smith. The bill was enrolled on June 1, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 10, 2016, making it Chapter 235 of the session laws.
