The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2015 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 22, 2015. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2015-0231s). The committee's amendment (0231s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 12, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On February 12, 2015 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 4, 2015 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 24, 2015. The committee held work sessions on April 14, 2015 and May 5, 2015. The committee met in executive session on May 12, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2015-1232h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1232h) was adopted on a voice vote on June 3, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On June 3, 2015 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 3, 2015 the House adopted “House Accedes to Senate Request for Committee of Conference (Rep Gorman)” on a voice vote. On June 4, 2015 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Prescott. A committee of conference met on June 10, 2015 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The Senate adopted the conference report (2115c) on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 11, 2015 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 19, 2015, making it Chapter 156 of the session laws. It took effect on June 19, 2015.
