SB 39 (2015)

relative to recounts on questions and relative to photographs of voters not presenting identification.

  • Status: Died: the chambers did not agree on a version
  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Election Law
  • Senate committee: Public and Municipal Affairs
  • Subject: Elections

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2015 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 21, 2015. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 29, 2015 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 4, 2015 and was referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held public hearings on April 7, 2015 and April 14, 2015. The committee held a public hearing on April 21, 2015 on a proposed non-germane amendment (2015-1303h). The committee met in executive session on April 21, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2015-1303h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 11–7. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (1303h) was adopted on a division vote 202–133 on June 3, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On June 3, 2015 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 206–149. On June 4, 2015 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Regina Birdsell.
