The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2015 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 10, 2015. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2015-0712s). The committee's amendment (0712s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 12, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On March 12, 2015 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 24–0, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2015-0999s). The committee's amendment (0999s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 26, 2015, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2015-1135s), offered by Sen. Bradley, was adopted on a voice vote on March 26, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On March 26, 2015 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 8, 2015. The committee held work sessions on April 14, 2015, April 21, 2015 and April 30, 2015. The committee met in executive session on May 12, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. A floor amendment (2015-2020h) was rejected on a division vote 162–203 on June 3, 2015. On June 3, 2015 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 349–17. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2015 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2015-2366e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 27, 2015, making it Chapter 272 of the session laws.
