The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2015 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 5, 2015. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2015-0230s). The committee's amendment (0230s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 12, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On February 12, 2015 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 23–0 and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 4, 2015 and was referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 31, 2015. The committee met in executive session on April 21, 2015 and April 30, 2015. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2015-1390h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 14–3. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (1390h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 6, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On May 6, 2015 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 233–120. On June 4, 2015 the Senate adopted “Sen. Prescott Concurs with House Amendment #1390h” on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (2015-2130) was adopted on a voice vote on June 11, 2015. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2015 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2015-2130e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 6, 2015, making it Chapter 204 of the session laws. It took effect on July 6, 2015.
