The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2015 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 5, 2015. The committee met in executive session on March 2, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2015-0616h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (0616h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 11, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On March 11, 2015 the House voted to pass it with changes on a division vote 255–99. It crossed to the Senate on March 19, 2015 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 31, 2015. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On May 7, 2015 the Senate rejected a motion to kill it on a voice vote. On May 7, 2015 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 23–0 and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 19, 2015 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 2, 2015, making it Chapter 74 of the session laws.
