  • Status: Died on the table
  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Crimes, Criminal Procedure and Corrections

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2015 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 17, 2015. The committee met in executive session on March 3, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 12–3 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2015-0699h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (0699h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 11, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On March 11, 2015 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 297–67. It crossed to the Senate on March 19, 2015 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 7, 2015. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On June 4, 2015 the Senate rejected a motion to kill it on a roll call 9–15. Sen. Pierce proposed a floor amendment (2015-2090s) on June 4, 2015; the docket records no vote on it. On June 4, 2015 the Senate failed “Section IV. (a) and (b) Lines 26-32” on a roll call 11–13. On June 4, 2015 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Pierce. The bill died on the table under Senate Rule 3-23 at adjournment on September 16, 2015, having been set aside and never taken back up.
