HB 418 (2015)

relative to waiver of rights to devised or inherited real property.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 139

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2015 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 3, 2015. The committee met in executive session on February 4, 2015, February 17, 2015 and February 19, 2015. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2015-0242h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (0242h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 11, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On March 11, 2015 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 19, 2015 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 12, 2015. The committee recommended that the Senate send it back to committee. On May 21, 2015 the Senate rejected a motion to send it back to committee on a voice vote. On May 21, 2015 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on June 3, 2015 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 12, 2015, making it Chapter 139 of the session laws.
