HB 361 (2015)

establishing a committee to study the definition of "employee" and the application of that definition to persons who work exclusively at home via the Internet for online business activities.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services
  • Senate committee: Commerce
  • Subject: Study Committees and Commissions
  • Chapter law: 138

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2015 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 28, 2015. The committee met in executive session on March 3, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2015-0132h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (0132h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 11, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On March 11, 2015 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 19, 2015 and was referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 7, 2015. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 7, 2015 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. An enrolled bill amendment (1726e) was adopted on a voice vote on May 14, 2015. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 21, 2015 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2015-1726EBA) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 12, 2015, making it Chapter 138 of the session laws.
