HB 292 (2015)
expanding the good Samaritan law to engineers and architects.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2015-2016
- House committee: Judiciary
- Senate committee: Judiciary
- Subject: Miscellaneous
- Chapter law: 191
The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2015 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 28, 2015. The committee met in executive session on February 4, 2015, February 17, 2015 and February 19, 2015. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2015-0210h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 13–2. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (0210h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 12, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On March 12, 2015 the House rejected a motion to lay it on the table on a division vote 119–206. On March 12, 2015 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 235–105. It crossed to the Senate on March 19, 2015 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 28, 2015. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2015-1861s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1861s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 28, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On May 28, 2015 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 3, 2015 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment #1861s (Rep Rowe)” on a division vote 248–112. An enrolled bill amendment (2106e) was adopted on a voice vote on June 11, 2015. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2015 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2015-2106EBA) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 6, 2015, making it Chapter 191 of the session laws. It took effect on July 6, 2015.
