  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Election Law
  • Senate committee: Public and Municipal Affairs
  • Subject: Elections
  • Chapter law: 159

The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 2015 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 20, 2015. The committee held a work session on January 29, 2015. The committee met in executive session on February 4, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2015-0123h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on February 11, 2015. On February 11, 2015 the House failed “Recommit (Rep Bates)” on a division vote 157–193. The committee's amendment (0123h) was adopted on a voice vote on February 11, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On February 11, 2015 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 5, 2015 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 25, 2015. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2015-1498s). The committee's amendment (1498s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 7, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On May 7, 2015 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 3, 2015 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment #1498s (Rep Hoelzel)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 11, 2015 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 26, 2015, making it Chapter 159 of the session laws.
