HB 122 (2015)

relative to advertising of liquor or beverages.

  • Status: Veto overridden, became law
  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Commerce
  • Subject: Liquor and Beer
  • Chapter law: 157

The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 2015 and referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 15, 2015. The committee held work sessions on February 5, 2015 and February 17, 2015. The committee met in executive session on March 3, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 11, 2015 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 19, 2015 and was referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 31, 2015. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2015-1221s). The committee's amendment (1221s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 9, 2015, changing the text of the bill. On April 9, 2015 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 6, 2015 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment #1221s (Rep Hunt)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 14, 2015 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on June 2, 2015. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On June 11, 2015 the House voted 236–95 to override the governor's veto on a roll call, meeting the two thirds threshold. On June 24, 2015 the Senate voted 18–6 to override the governor's veto on a roll call, meeting the two thirds threshold.
