SB 351 (2014)

relative to the requirement for notice of noncompete agreements prior to the start of employment.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services
  • Senate committee: Commerce
  • Subject: Employment
  • Chapter law: 289

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2014 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 23, 2014. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2014-0566s). The committee's amendment (0566s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 19, 2014, changing the text of the bill. On February 19, 2014 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 13, 2014 and was referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 2, 2014. The committee met in executive session on April 16, 2014 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 23, 2014 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (2014-1585eba) was adopted on a voice vote on May 5, 2014. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 15, 2014 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2014-1585e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 28, 2014, making it Chapter 289 of the session laws. It took effect on July 28, 2014.
