SB 293 (2014)

establishing a committee to study open adoption agreements.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Children and Family Law
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Study Committees and Commissions
  • Chapter law: 134

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2014 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 4, 2014. The committee recommended that the Senate study it after the session ends. On March 27, 2014 the Senate failed “Refer to Interim Study” on a voice vote. A floor amendment (2014-1170s), offered by Sen. Sharon Carson, was adopted on a voice vote on March 27, 2014, changing the text of the bill. On March 27, 2014 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on April 1, 2014 and was referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 8, 2014. The committee held a work session on April 10, 2014. The committee met in executive session on April 16, 2014 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 30, 2014 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. On April 30, 2014 the House adopted “Third Reading” on a division vote. On April 30, 2014 the House failed “Reconsideration Third Reading (Rep Lambert)” on a roll call 133–202. The bill was enrolled on May 15, 2014 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 27, 2014, making it Chapter 134 of the session laws.
