SB 289 (2014)

relative to revising the uniform trust act.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Commerce
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 195

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2014 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 21, 2014. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2014-0560s). The committee's amendment (0560s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 19, 2014, changing the text of the bill. On February 19, 2014 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 13, 2014 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 1, 2014. The committee held a work session on April 9, 2014. The committee met in executive session on April 22, 2014 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2014-1296h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2014-1296h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 30, 2014, changing the text of the bill. On April 30, 2014 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On April 30, 2014 the House adopted “Third Reading” on a division vote. On April 30, 2014 the House failed “Reconsideration Third Reading” on a roll call 133–202, on a motion by Rep. Lambert. On May 15, 2014 the Senate adopted “Sen. Sanborn Concurs with House Amendment #1296h, NT” on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (1928eba) was adopted on a voice vote on May 22, 2014. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 4, 2014 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2014-1928e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 11, 2014, making it Chapter 195 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2014.
