The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2014 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 23, 2014. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2014-0563s). The committee's amendment (0563s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 19, 2014, changing the text of the bill. On February 19, 2014 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 12, 2014 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 1, 2014. The committee held a work session on April 9, 2014. The committee met in executive session on April 15, 2014 to vote on its recommendation. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 14–4, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The minority of the committee reported: Refer to Interim Study. On April 23, 2014 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 216–101. An enrolled bill amendment (2014-1628eba) was adopted on a voice vote on May 5, 2014. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 15, 2014 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2014-1628e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 11, 2014, making it Chapter 216 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2015.
