HB 597-FN (2014)

relative to a drug-free workplace for licensed health care facilities and providers.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs
  • Senate committee: Health, Education and Human Services
  • Subject: Public and Mental Health
  • Chapter law: 36

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held public hearings on February 26, 2013 and March 5, 2013. The committee met in executive session on March 7, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 21, 2013, May 28, 2013, June 4, 2013, June 11, 2013, August 6, 2013 and September 10, 2013. The committee met in executive session on October 30, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2013-2261h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On January 22, 2014 the House voted to adopt it on a voice vote. On January 22, 2014 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 289–48. It crossed to the Senate on February 19, 2014 and was referred to the Senate Health, Education and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 1, 2014. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 17, 2014 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 1, 2014 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 27, 2014, making it Chapter 36 of the session laws. It took effect on August 25, 2014.
