The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 21, 2013. The committee met in executive session on March 5, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on June 4, 2013, October 9, 2013, October 23, 2013 and November 12, 2013. The committee met in executive session on November 12, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2013-2374h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2374h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 8, 2014, changing the text of the bill. On January 8, 2014 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 19, 2014 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 9, 2014. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 17, 2014 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. An enrolled bill amendment (1565e) was adopted on a voice vote on May 1, 2014. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 8, 2014 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2014-1565eba) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 14, 2014 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 27, 2014, making it Chapter 34 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2015.
