relative to regulation of real estate brokerage and sales by the real estate commission.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Senate committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Subject: Occupational Regulation
  • Chapter law: 261

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 19, 2013. The committee met in executive session on February 26, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on June 4, 2013, June 11, 2013, August 21, 2013, September 4, 2013 and November 12, 2013. The committee met in executive session on November 12, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2013-2212h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 11–7. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2212h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 29, 2014, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2014-0004h) was rejected on a division vote 126–193 on January 29, 2014. On January 29, 2014 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 185–140. It crossed to the Senate on February 19, 2014 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 26, 2014. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2014-1771s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1771s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 15, 2014, changing the text of the bill. On May 15, 2014 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 21, 2014 the House adopted “Rep. Chandler moved to Non-Concur with Senate AM and request C of C” on a voice vote. On May 22, 2014 the Senate adopted “Accedes to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Sharon Carson. A committee of conference met on May 23, 2014 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The Senate adopted the conference report (1914c) on a voice vote. The House adopted the conference report (1914c) on a roll call 201–140. The bill was enrolled on June 18, 2014 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 28, 2014, making it Chapter 261 of the session laws.
