HB 286 (2014)

relative to broadband infrastructure.

  • Status: Referred for interim study
  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Science, Technology and Energy
  • Senate committee: Energy and Natural Resources
  • Subject: Energy and Utilities

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the House Science, Technology and Energy committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 26, 2013. The committee held a work session on March 5, 2013. The committee met in executive session on March 5, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0683h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 11–8. On March 20, 2013 the House adopted “Recommit” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Borden. The committee met in executive session on March 20, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 28, 2013, September 24, 2013, October 15, 2013, October 22, 2013 and October 29, 2013. The committee met in executive session on November 12, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 13–5 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2013-2354h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2354h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 29, 2014, changing the text of the bill. On January 29, 2014 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 204–78. It crossed to the Senate on March 27, 2014 and was referred to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 23, 2014. The committee recommended that the Senate study it after the session ends. On May 15, 2014 the Senate adopted “Refer to Interim Study” on a roll call 14–10.
