The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2014 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 28, 2014. The committee met in executive session on February 4, 2014 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2014-0348h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (0348h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 5, 2014, changing the text of the bill. On March 5, 2014 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 6, 2014 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 19, 2014. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 17, 2014 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 1, 2014 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 23, 2014, making it Chapter 25 of the session laws. It took effect on July 22, 2014.
