  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Children and Family Law
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Children

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2014 and referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 30, 2014. The committee met in executive session on February 11, 2014 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 13–2. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On February 19, 2014 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 205–98. It crossed to the Senate on March 6, 2014 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 25, 2014. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 17, 2014 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 1, 2014 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 11, 2014, making it Chapter 95 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2015.
