HB 1137-FN (2014)

relative to annulment of certain obstruction of justice crimes and relative to the crime of escape.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Crimes, Criminal Procedure and Corrections
  • Chapter law: 170

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2014 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 21, 2014. The committee met in executive session on February 11, 2014 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 14–2 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On February 19, 2014 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 6, 2014 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 25, 2014. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2014-1348s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1348s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 24, 2014, changing the text of the bill. On April 24, 2014 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 7, 2014 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment #1348s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Pantelakos. The bill was enrolled on May 15, 2014 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 11, 2014, making it Chapter 170 of the session laws.
