The Story
It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 23, 2013. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2013-0045s). The committee's amendment (0045s) was adopted on a voice vote on January 31, 2013, changing the text of the bill. On January 31, 2013 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 27, 2013 and was referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 9, 2013. The committee met in executive session on April 16, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 16–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 24, 2013 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2013 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 6, 2013, making it Chapter 58 of the session laws. It took effect on August 5, 2013.
