SB 17 (2013)
establishing a commission to study palliative care and associated quality of life initiatives.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2013-2014

- Senate committee: Health, Education and Human Services

The Story
It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the Senate Health, Education and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 15, 2013. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On January 31, 2013 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 27, 2013 and was referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 9, 2013. The committee met in executive session on April 16, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee held a work session on May 7, 2013. The committee met in executive session on May 14, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1585h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1585h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 22, 2013, changing the text of the bill. On May 22, 2013 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 12, 2013 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Stiles. An enrolled bill amendment (2102e) was adopted on June 12, 2013. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2013 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2013-2102e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 15, 2013, making it Chapter 225 of the session laws.
