  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 12, 2013. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 7, 2013 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 27, 2013 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 9, 2013. The committee met in executive session on April 16, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 18–1. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 24, 2013 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2013 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 6, 2013, making it Chapter 66 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2013.
