HB 521 (2013)

establishing a committee to study New Hampshire election laws and procedures.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Election Law
  • Senate committee: Public and Municipal Affairs
  • Subject: Study Committees and Commissions
  • Chapter law: 220

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 7, 2013. The committee met in executive session on February 21, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 6, 2013 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 7, 2013 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 3, 2013. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2013-1260s). The committee's amendment (1260s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 18, 2013, changing the text of the bill. On April 18, 2013 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 5, 2013 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1260s (Rep Cote)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 14, 2013 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 12, 2013, making it Chapter 220 of the session laws.
