The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 5, 2013. The committee met in executive session on February 21, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 16–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 13, 2013 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 14, 2013 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 10, 2013. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2013-1519s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on May 23, 2013. On May 23, 2013 the Senate adopted “Without Objection, HB 506 is Special Ordered, 2/3 Necessary”. The committee's amendment (1519s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 23, 2013, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2013-1849s), offered by Sen. Boutin, was adopted on a voice vote on May 23, 2013, changing the text of the bill. On May 23, 2013 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 29, 2013 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1519s(NT) and #1849s(NT) (Rep Porter)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2013 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 6, 2013, making it Chapter 70 of the session laws.
