HB 505 (2013)

relative to the economic development advisory council.

  • Status: Vetoed, override failed
  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Commerce
  • Subject: Miscellaneous

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 19, 2013. The committee held a work session on February 26, 2013. The committee met in executive session on March 5, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0572h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee met in executive session on March 7, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee's amendment (0572h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 20, 2013, changing the text of the bill. On March 20, 2013 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 21, 2013 and was referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2013. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2013-1405s). The committee's amendment (1405s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 2, 2013, changing the text of the bill. On May 2, 2013 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 22, 2013 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1405s (Rep Butler)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 13, 2013 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on July 16, 2013. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On January 8, 2014 the House voted 165–175 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
