The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 30, 2013. The committee met in executive session on February 19, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 14–5. On March 13, 2013 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 28, 2013 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 24, 2013. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 23, 2013 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on June 13, 2013 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 28, 2013, making it Chapter 150 of the session laws.
