The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 7, 2013. The committee met in executive session on February 28, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 16–2 to recommend that the House pass it. On March 13, 2013 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 14, 2013 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 9, 2013. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2013-1483s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1483s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 23, 2013, changing the text of the bill. On May 23, 2013 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 5, 2013 the House adopted “House Non-Concurs with Senate AM #1483s(NT) and Requests C of C (Rep Pantelakos)” on a voice vote. On June 12, 2013 the Senate adopted “Accede to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Sharon Carson. A committee of conference met on June 19, 2013 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill.
