HB 413 (2013)

relative to property abandoned by tenants.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2013-2014
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Housing
  • Chapter law: 237

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 31, 2013. The committee held work sessions on February 12, 2013 and February 19, 2013. The committee met in executive session on February 19, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0345h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (0345h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 6, 2013, changing the text of the bill. On March 6, 2013 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 7, 2013 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 19, 2013. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2013-1485s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1485) was adopted on a voice vote on May 23, 2013, changing the text of the bill. On May 23, 2013 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 5, 2013 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1485s (Rep M.Smith)” on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (2101e) was adopted on a voice vote on June 12, 2013. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2013 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2013-2101e) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 15, 2013, making it Chapter 237 of the session laws.
