The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2013 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 29, 2013. The committee held work sessions on February 5, 2013, February 19, 2013, February 26, 2013 and February 28, 2013. The committee met in executive session on March 5, 2013 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0623h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 18–2. The committee's amendment (0623h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 13, 2013, changing the text of the bill. On March 13, 2013 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 21, 2013 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 24, 2013. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 2, 2013 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 8, 2013 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 4, 2013, making it Chapter 36 of the session laws.
