  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Transportation
  • Senate committee: Transportation
  • Subject: Motor Vehicles
  • Chapter law: 135

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the Senate Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 26, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-0497s). The committee's amendment (0497s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 8, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On February 8, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 8, 2012 and was referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2012. The committee met in executive session on April 10, 2012 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 12–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 25, 2012 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. On April 25, 2012 the House failed “Divide Motion To Lay Senate Bills On Table (Rep Weber)” on a roll call 82–204. On April 25, 2012 the House voted to lay it on the table on a division vote 195–93. On May 16, 2012 the House adopted “Remove From The Table (Rep Packard)” on a division vote 265–43. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 5, 2012, making it Chapter 135 of the session laws. It took effect on June 5, 2012.
