The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 19, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-0897s). On March 7, 2012 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Lambert. On March 21, 2012 the Senate adopted “Remove From Table” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. D’Allesandro. The committee's amendment (0897s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 21, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On March 21, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 21, 2012 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 10, 2012. The committee held a work session on May 1, 2012. The committee met in executive session on May 3, 2012, May 8, 2012 and May 10, 2012. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 15, 2012 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 7, 2012, making it Chapter 167 of the session laws. It took effect on June 7, 2012.
