The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the Senate Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 19, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-0571s). The committee's amendment (0571s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 8, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On February 8, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 8, 2012 and was referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2012. The committee met in executive session on May 8, 2012 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 10–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on May 15, 2012. A floor amendment (2012-2292h) was rejected on a division vote 65–196 on May 17, 2012. On May 17, 2012 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 202–63. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 7, 2012, making it Chapter 153 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2013.
