The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 24, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-1117s). The committee's amendment (1117s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 21, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On March 21, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 21, 2012 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2012. The committee held work sessions on April 24, 2012 and May 1, 2012. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1941h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1941h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 9, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On May 9, 2012 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 16, 2012 the Senate adopted “Sen. Prescott Concurs with House Amendment 1941h” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 7, 2012, making it Chapter 165 of the session laws. It took effect on August 6, 2012.
