The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 10, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-0653s). On February 15, 2012 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. White. On March 21, 2012 the Senate adopted “Remove From Table” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. White. The committee's amendment (0653s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 21, 2012, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2012-1234s), offered by Sen. White, was adopted on a voice vote on March 21, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On March 21, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 21, 2012 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 24, 2012. The committee held work sessions on April 24, 2012 and May 1, 2012. The committee voted 12–2 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On May 9, 2012 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 17, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 29, 2012, making it Chapter 100 of the session laws. It took effect on July 28, 2012.
