SB 204 (2012)

adopting amendments to Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code relative to secured transactions.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Commerce
  • Subject: Banking and Finance
  • Chapter law: 236

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held public hearings on January 24, 2012, February 7, 2012 and February 14, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-1118s). The committee's amendment (1118s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 21, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On March 21, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 21, 2012 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 24, 2012. The committee held work sessions on April 24, 2012 and May 1, 2012. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 9, 2012 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (2495e) was adopted on May 30, 2012. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 6, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2012-2495e) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 18, 2012, making it Chapter 236 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2013.
