SB 202 (2012)

apportioning congressional districts.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Special Committee on Redistricting
  • Senate committee: Internal Affairs
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 18

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the Senate Internal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 24, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 28, 2012 the Senate adopted “Special Order to the afternoon session, Without Objection”. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (2012-1488s), offered by Sen. Bradley, was adopted on a voice vote on March 28, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On March 28, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 28, 2012 and was referred to the House Special Committee on Redistricting committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 3, 2012. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 11–5. The report was placed on the regular calendar. A floor amendment (2012-1553h) was rejected on a roll call 102–229 on April 11, 2012. On April 11, 2012 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 239–95. On April 11, 2012 the House failed “Reconsideration (Rep Bettencourt)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 18, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on April 23, 2012, making it Chapter 18 of the session laws. It took effect on June 22, 2012.
