The Story

The committee held a public hearing on March 8, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2011-1184s). The committee's amendment (1184s) was rejected on a voice vote on March 30, 2011. On March 30, 2011 the Senate rejected a motion to pass it on a voice vote. On March 30, 2011 the Senate voted to send it back to committee on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Bradley. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-0168s). The committee's amendment (0168s) was adopted on a voice vote on January 25, 2012, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2012-0306s), offered by Sen. Lambert, was rejected on a voice vote on January 25, 2012. On January 25, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It was introduced on February 9, 2012 and referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 10, 2012. The committee held work sessions on April 24, 2012 and May 8, 2012. The committee met in executive session on May 8, 2012 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 17–1 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2008h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2008h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 15, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On May 15, 2012 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 23, 2012 the Senate adopted “Sen. Prescott Concurs with House Amendment #2008h” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 5, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on June 12, 2012. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On June 27, 2012 the Senate voted 13–10 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
