  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Children and Family Law
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Domestic Relations
  • Chapter law: 248

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 24, 2011. The committee met in executive session on March 7, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 11–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 15, 2011 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 23, 2011 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 28, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate send it back to committee. On June 1, 2011 the Senate voted to send it back to committee on a voice vote. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-0133s). The committee's amendment (0133s) was adopted on a voice vote on January 18, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On January 18, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On March 7, 2012 the House adopted “House Non-Concurs with Senate AM and Requests C of C (Rep Moran)” on a voice vote. On May 2, 2012 the Senate adopted “Sen. Houde Accede to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 29, 2012 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The Senate adopted the conference report (2412c) on a voice vote. The House adopted the conference report (2412c) on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 6, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 18, 2012, making it Chapter 248 of the session laws.
