The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held public hearings on February 17, 2011 and February 22, 2011. The committee met in executive session on February 24, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on June 7, 2011, August 18, 2011, September 1, 2011 and September 8, 2011. The committee met in executive session on October 26, 2011 and October 27, 2011. The committee voted unanimously, 21–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2579h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2579h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 4, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On January 4, 2012 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 8, 2012 and was referred to the Senate Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 13, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 21, 2012 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Rausch. On May 16, 2012 the Senate adopted “Remove HB 518 From Table” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Odell. On May 16, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 24–0 and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 5, 2012, making it Chapter 116 of the session laws.
