The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 1, 2011. The committee met in executive session on March 1, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on June 8, 2011, September 21, 2011 and October 4, 2011. The committee met in executive session on October 18, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2754h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2754h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 4, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On January 4, 2012 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 8, 2012 and was referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-1698s). The committee's amendment (1698s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 25, 2012, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2012-1697s), offered by Sen. Houde, was rejected on a roll call 5–18 on April 25, 2012. On April 25, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 18–5 and ordered it to a third reading. On May 15, 2012 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1698s (Rep Daniels)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 7, 2012, making it Chapter 139 of the session laws.
