The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2011 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 10, 2011. The committee met in executive session on February 24, 2011 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0514h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (0514h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 15, 2011, changing the text of the bill. On March 15, 2011 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 23, 2011 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 10, 2011. The committee recommended that the Senate send it back to committee. On May 18, 2011 the Senate voted to send it back to committee on a voice vote. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On January 18, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on February 8, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on March 12, 2012, making it Chapter 4 of the session laws.
