The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 24, 2012. The committee held work sessions on February 7, 2012, February 14, 2012 and February 21, 2012. The committee met in executive session on February 23, 2012 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 14–3 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1025h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (1025h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 29, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On March 29, 2012 the House voted to pass it with changes on a division vote 271–19. It crossed to the Senate and was referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 12, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 25, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 14, 2012, making it Chapter 64 of the session laws.
