HB 1665-FN (2012)

enabling a superior court or circuit court to implement one or more drug courts.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2011-2012
  • House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 218

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2012 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on January 25, 2012. The committee met in executive session on February 21, 2012 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 13–2 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0197h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (0197h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 7, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On March 7, 2012 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 7, 2012 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 26, 2012. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2012-1893s). The committee's amendment (1893s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 2, 2012, changing the text of the bill. On May 2, 2012 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 30, 2012 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1893s (Rep Swinford)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 6, 2012 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 13, 2012, making it Chapter 218 of the session laws.
